LIGHTING TYPES
TASK LIGHTING â FUNCTIONAL YET STYLISH
It is essential to have enough light to work or read by and kitchens, home offices and bathrooms all need effective task lighting. We suggest choosing directional lights that boost illumination in the area required without blanket lighting the whole room. A great example of task lighting is the iconic Anglepoise. This articulated lamp has an elegant, pared-down silhouette and casts a concentrated pocket of light to work by. Pendants are great task lights and work brilliantly when suspended over kitchen islands and worktops. Wall lights are also good for illuminating a work area, especially if you opt for designs that are adjustable and can be angled to cast light exactly where itâs wanted.
A reading light has to be effective and again we suggest an articulated lamp for this, especially if you love to curl up in bed with a book. If you have a favourite reading spot, make sure that you factor in a decent lamp when you plan your room design.
STATEMENT LIGHTING â MAKE A SCENE
We do love a statement lamp â they excel at creating impact and are a fantastic interior design trick, stepping your interiors up to the next level. A statement light is usually oversized and flamboyant, such as a beautiful chandelier or an iconic molecular ceiling light: either way it must be spectacular. If a statement lamp is hung as a central fitting make sure you fit a dimmer switch so that it twinkles and sparkles rather than dazzles and glares.
A statement light looks particularly fabulous over a dining table or in a hallway. Bear in mind that if the light is heavy, you must ensure that it is screwed into a joist to avoid pulling your ceiling down. We would always suggest getting a really good electrician to wire this sort of fitting.
